"If you plan to study abroad, you may fret about your first day at a
university in a foreign country. The unfamiliar may seem scary, but take
a few deep breaths and enjoy one of the most exciting periods of your
life."
This is Karolina Kulach's encouraging introduction to the narration of her first day experience as an Erasmus student in Germany. Do you think you could have a similar experience? Would it be easy for you to become an expert in small talk?

If I have to imagine how would be my experience abroad,I think that I could be able to do it but It would be very difficult to me because I'm not an outgoing person. However I would like to meet new people and know different cultures, so I have to beat the shyness. It wouldn't be easy for me to have small talks with strange people because if I feel uncomfortable I'm not able to talk with anyone about our life, because we don't have any familiarity with each other.
ReplyDeleteI have always been a very shy person. Because of that, meeting new people and making friends has always been a difficult task for me. As a consequence, I am pretty sure that if I moved to another country for a while I would feel very uncomfortable when meeting new people, and I would feel as Karolina Kulach.
ReplyDeleteBut although I am very shy, I know that sooner or later, I would have to deal with my shyness, and I think these advices that Karolina gives in her post are very useful.
I am not sure I would become an expert in small talk, but I know I would have to do my best to be it, because the more expert I am, the easier for me to talk with other people without feeling nervous or uncomfortable, so… who knows?

ReplyDeleteI believe I can have a similar experience because I am a shy guy who does not like to speak in public and I have never been without my family more than a week so going abroad will be hard. I think that become an expert in small talk will not be easy but with experience and tips it could be easier, this girl was like me and she overcame his fears in order to be good at small-talks so I believe that erasmus environment will help me to get on with other students and finally I will be good at small-talks and I will want to stay in erasmus, not to come-back home.
I feel very identified with karolina because I am a introvert person and I often think about how I would act if I traveled abroad. I usually have problems to start a conversation so it would not be easy for me in the first days. However, when I take trust with the people I can be very extrovert. In addition, I think that going abroad is an opportunity that I should take advantage of. For this reason, I would make an effort to leave my shyness aside to let me know better at the small talks.

I haven’t been in a Erasmus yet, but I have been doing exchanges with people from UK, China and Italy for a week or a month and I had the same feeling as Karolina Kulach of being nervous when it's time to meet new people.
Although I had improved in talking with an unknown and I have also learnt how to interact with them, I don’t consider myself as an expert in small talk because my shyness is still there.
I think it won’t be easy to become an expert in small talk because people like my that are very shy need to go abroad frequently. In fact, when I tried to meet people in those places I have learnt that there are lots of difference about the way to do it.
Above all I believe that if I go frequently abroad I will reach to be an expert in small talk.
I am not shy, so I think I won’t have difficulties the first days of my erasmus year. Maybe I will feel out of place the first days because I am very home-loving, but I think I won’t have many problems to adapt to the new ambient.
ReplyDeleteRelative to the small talk I think it will be easy. I love meeting new people and talking with them because I think I can learn a lot of things, so if I ever have to break the ice, I won’t have any problem. In addition I think that start a conversation it’s so important and says a lot of people. I would love to be in an Erasmus and I think that if I had the opportunity I am prepared.

I'm not a shy person, I love meeting new people. I really like start a conversation with an unknown person because I can learn a lot about them. So relative to small talk it would be easy.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, I don't have any problems to be out of me home-living place because I really enjoy the idea of living new experiences.
I'm looking forward to going on an Erasmus year, I think that I will have new friends, I'm going to improve my speaking and I going to live grateful experiences.
I imagine that in my first day studying abroad I will be nervous and I won’t know where I have to go in the university. So, I think that I won’t have the similar experience because I’m a shy person and it’s difficult for me to have trust in a short time with people that I just met. Although I would look for people like me as Karolina Kulach, to enjoy the Erasmus doing activities with them to have more confidence. But I don’t think that I will be an expert on small talk.
