Just like home

Just a term, six months, a whole year ...? Whatever the length of your stay will be, it's important to make the right decisions regarding accommodation in advance. You can live on campus or in a shared flat. What are your priorities? What are you more concerned about, place or people to live with?

  1. I would like to spend a whole year because only a term or six months wouldn’t be enough time for me to learn and get used to the culture. I prefer a flat because I want to learn house chores and share it with some mates. In addition, I’m more concerned about the people who I’ll live with. That’s because I would like to share the flat with people who are easy going, tidy and young. Moreover, I prefer to stay in a house with approximately 4 mates who respect my space.

  2. My priorities when I'm going to share a flat, are first of all, to have any window in my bedroom because I need natural light. Secondly, I would like to have facilities near the flat, like a chamistry, some shops, supermarkets...Finally I would like to have heating in winter, and a desk in my bedroom to study.
Currently, I am more concerned about the people to live with because I'm going to live with them many years so I would like that they would be good friends and have a good friendship.

  3. I’m more concerned about people. For me is important if their are tidy, sociable, respectful, easygoing, what are their hobbies and if I can trust on them. I hope they respect my own space. I prefer if they are boys and girls too, but I don’t want more than four people at home.

However I have some priorities about the place to live. I want it well-communicated to the rest of the city, not in the extra-radio. I don’t like at all a terrace either a garden.

¿Why I’m more concerned about people than the place to live? Because I’m going to spend a lot of time with them, I’m going to share my things with them and after a long day, I want my things in my room, the flat clean and the most important thing: I want a peaceful place with kind people. I don’t mind if they make noise, I can study on a library. I don’t mind if my house is far, I can rent a bike to go to the University.

  4. Searching for a place to live is always a difficult task, but even more when you are moving to a new country and you have to adapt yourself to a new culture, routines, etc.

We all have watched lots of movies of teenagers moving to a campus and being very happy with their new american student life, but most of us don’t really know how is it to live on a campus or what consequences does it have. For example, how expensive it is.

In my opinion, If I ever moved to another country for a while, I would stay in a shared flat, and the very first thing I would consider would be to live in a well-communicated area. Because if I am not going to live inside the campus, at least I would like to have the possibility of arriving there in less than one hour and a half. In addition, living with kind and easy going people would be very important to me too, because I don’t want to feel uncomfortable or isolated living in my own flat.

  5. When you have to studying or working abroad you have to face some problems that can be for example finding an accommodation.
First and foremost you have to choose what type it would be your new house, the location of it and the partners you will have.
To my mind, living in a campus it is better than in a shared flat. First of all when we talk about the location, that is for me the most important priority, the place of the campus it is always very near to the university whereas in the other hand, living in a flat won’t be such near unless you have a very good luck to find it.
In addition to location, the people who you are going to live with is another point that we have to keep in our mind. Although living in a shared flat can give you the opportunity to meet all type of people, but living in the campus it is more safety due to your roommates are students too and the environment of studying is different.
However If I have no choice but to choose to live in a shared flat, I wish that my partners don't have any pets and they have to be clean, not only in the house, but also with themselves.

  6. Looking for a flat is probably one of the most important things that we have to do when we decide to study abroad.
Personally, I am more concerned about the people who are going to share the flat with me.
I am a very clean and tidy person, and I think that they are essential qualities, above all if you want to share a flat. I cannot imagine myself living in a dirty flat with messy people, especially if I have to share the bathroom.

Another important thing that I am more concerned about too is the localization and the proximity to stations. I think that is so important because I have to think about the time that takes to arrive to the place that I have to go every day.

  7. If I have the opportunity to study abroad for a year, I would like to live in a shared flat. Although I think living on campus will be a great experience and I will enjoy more the university life, I prefer living in a shared flat, because I think it will give more privacy and in my opinion we need to disconnect from the studies sometimes and if I live on campus I will be all time in the University and I will feel overwhelmed.
What concerns me the most it is people to live with. I think the place is not so important because I don’t mind taking public transport or riding a bike, what is more I would like do it because it can help me to get familiar with the space.

I have to recognise that I am a little special at the time of sharing a flat. I am very organised, and I detest the disorder, so I can’t live with disorganized people. It is so important for me feeling comfortable, so I need to live with agreeable, sociable and funny people and if it is possible I want to live with people with the same age. This is the most important for me.

  8. My priorities are first of all hire a flat because I don't like living on a campus because is harder, and I am more concerned about the people because you cannot live with people you don't have a good relationship, I want to live with people who are sociable, respectful, funny and mature. However, people is not all, place is important too, but problems about living in a bad area are easy to solve by means of transport, people problems are more difficult to solve.

  9. I am more concerned about the place to live in. My priorities are to have a supermarket and the underground near my house. As I don't have a car I will need to go shopping by public transport. Also I want to have some shops around my house. Although people are also important, I think that the place is a stronger point to choose where you want live.

  10. If I study in a university out of my country I will want to live on campus because I want to be near people studying the same as me. So, I am more concerned about the people than the accommodation because you can change something of the room but If you share a flat with people you will have to be with them for a long time and you can’t change them. Then, I would like to live on campus and spend my free time with people doing common activities and going out. I’d like to make friends with responsible people who go to study at the library and that are easygoing, mature and independent.
